This is a day for learning about a variety of techniques that can be used with wet felting to make felt jewellery. Whether you would like to make beads for a bracelet or that statement necklace or even to learn how to connect loops together Sarah will guide you each step of the way. Using soft, fine, coloured merino fibres you will learn how to design, measure and size your work to achieve great results. This workshop is suitable for beginners and the more advanced felter.

If you have any stones, shells or special beads then do bring them along to incorporate in to your work. All other materials will be provided.

Extra information for students: Please bring a notepad and pen (a camera is also useful, but not necessary, for visual reference) and a plastic bag to take your work home in. Although we will be using soapy water you should not get ‘wet’ or need to wear old clothes

Tutor: Sarah Waters

Sarah is a textile artist with a passion for felt making that originates from her love of sheep. Living in the New Forest her work reflects her desire to connect with nature and the importance of sustainability. She produces work that is not only functional but has colour, texture and a tactile quality.

Sarah has been spinning weaving and dyeing her own fleeces for over thirty years. Having graduated in Agriculture she set up and ran her own company, producing yarn and knitting kits from her own flock of several hundred rare breeds of sheep. Feltmaking was a natural progression and Sarah now has over twenty years of experience in teaching this ancient craft.

She currently runs her own textiles business teaching, exhibiting in the UK and internationally and selling her work though galleries and online. Sarah is a member of the Society of Designer Craftsman and regional co-ordinator for the International Feltmakers Association.
