with your sewing machine! Being able to move your machine in all directions
will allow you to express your creativity in many ways, not only to mend or darn
your jeans. You will learn to produce beautiful free motion embroidery, calligraphy, raw edge applique and free motion quilting. The
possibilities are endless!
By the end of the session you will be able to set up a
sewing machine in darning mode (free-motion sewing - feed dogs down), identify differences between darning, embroidery and quilting using
free-motion sewing. Plus, you will have explored different techniques such as straight, zig-zag stitch,
doodling, sketching, appliqué, calligraphy or quilting, depending on your
previous ability, knowledge and the sewing machine’s capability.
Previous experience: Participants
must be able to operate their sewing machine. All levels of ability are
welcome, beginners or experienced sewists who want to be introduced, refresh or
improve their free-motion stitching in different techniques.
What you will need: Sewing machine capable of dropping the feed dogs and a darning foot, (bringing along the instruction manual is recommended), control pedal and spare needles and bobbins, embroidery hoop about 6 inches diameter, 2 meters of calico, 1 meter of wadding, an assortment of polyester thread in different colours and scrap materials to practice applique shapes.
