Jewish Music | Gypsy Music | Klezmer Music | Balkan Music

Celebrating 21 years performing klezmer and folk music from Eastern Europe and the Balkans, four musicians from She’Koyokh will perform Jewish and traditional dance tunes out of the villages and mountains of Poland, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, Ukraine, Greece and Turkey. Bitter-sweet, virtuosic, soulful arrangements reflect the incredible diversity of Europe, the history of migration and the musical contact that has taken place across social and political boundaries over hundreds of years.

The band formed in 2001 with the support of a Millennium Award from the Jewish Music Institute and in 2008 they were awarded first prize in the International Jewish Music Festival in Amsterdam, since shortlisted twice for Best Group in the Songlines World Music Awards. They have toured the world as a larger group of currently up to 7 musicians with highlights at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and festivals in Germany, Hungary, Poland, Cyprus, Spain, the Canary Islands and Norway; WOMAD, Sziget and Pannonica Festivals; Fundación Juan March Madrid, London’s Southbank Centre, Aldeburgh’s Snape Proms and live sessions on BBC Radio.

Their album First Dance on Second Avenue was released in 2017 on World Music Network’s Riverboat Records to critical acclaim, receiving a ★★★★★ review in the Evening Standard, ★★★★★ and Album Choice in fROOTS, ★★★★ in the Guardian, ★★★★ and Top of the World in Songlines and ★★★★ in BBC Music Magazine.

She’Koyokh is a Yiddish word meaning “nice one!" and their performance at Ashcroft is sure to be just that, so don't miss it!
