Write your gothic, crime, or mystery novel: short course (Autumn 2021)

Do you write? Are you interested in writing a novel? Do you like Mysteries, Crime Fiction or Gothic novels? Join us for a short course where you’ll gain a clearer idea of how to write your book. The four sessions will cover the ideas and planning stage, right through to characters, plot, settings and finally edits and selling. No previous creative writing experience is needed, but experienced writers will also enjoy setting realistic aims, busting myths and getting down to writing. These sessions are run in a friendly, informal atmosphere by a published novelist.

Previous feedback on Williams workshops and courses...

I enjoyed interacting with the other participants. I’ve also benefitted from Will’s infectious enthusiasm. I found the input on editing particularly useful because it gave objective criteria to cut through the sprawling first draft.

Tutor was dynamic, knowledgeable, encouraging, empathetic. More than good value for money, it is informative, interesting and inspirational, and I shall not hesitate to recommend it to others.

Exceeded my expectations.

10/10, excellent pace and differentiation, plus advice on plot, characters, structure, editing and more.

What you need: Pen and paper, and an open mind.

Tutor: William SuttonWilliam runs sell-out writing workshops in Portsmouth Bookfest. His three mystery novels are published by Titan Books. He hosts spoken word shows and music gigs in Portsmouth DarkFest, a festival of all things dark and alternative.

Ticket: £35 for the four week course
Sessions: Monday 1 November, 8 November, 15 November and 22 November, 6:30pm - 8pm.
